Everything started in January 2004, while watching the TV show Village Life, in which an engineer from the Institute of Research and Development for Fruit Growing, Mărăcineni, Argeș County, presented several aspects about SEA BUCKTHORN: benefits, importance, spread, reproduction, maintenance, harvest and many more. The idea inspired us instantly and we decided to put it into practice, which is what we did, although back then our knowledge about sea buckthorn was scarce. We started to gather information and, in the autumn of 2005, we planted in Lechinta, Bistrița Năsăud County, the first sea buckthorn hectare with certified cuttings. In 2 years, we managed to extend the plantation to 5 hectares. In 2007, in order to fully comply with the legislation in force, we founded the company CATINAPLANT SRL, which still operates at present. Later, we slightly diversified our scope of activity and decided to produce, multiply and trade certified sea buckthorn cuttings. Thus, in the beginning we produced and capitalized on sea buckthorn seedlings from the Serpeni, Pitești 1 and Pitești 2 varieties, owned by I.C.D.P. Mărăcineni-Pitesti/Argeș, based on a royalty agreement and on other necessary documents signed by both parties.

Throughout time, after a lot of work, studies and research, we managed to create three sea buckthorn varieties of our own, namely CARINA, CRISTINA and ANDREI (male) registered at I.S.T.I.S.(the State Institute for Testing and Registration of Varieties in Romania) – valuable varieties, with medium to high yield, perfectly acclimatized to the pedoclimatic conditions of our country.

As CATINAPLANT is a family business, the relay baton being passed from one generation to the next, in 2021 the new generation who took the lead established new plantations, the most recent of which being a mother-plantation with the three certified varieties and the necessary nursery in a new location: Tărtășești, Dâmbovița County.

We continue the family tradition with a large-scale extension, founding plantations in other regions of the country and trading rooted cuttings of certified varieties abroad. The quality of the cuttings is the result of over 15 years of experience, research and studies. We share our 3-generation expertise with our customers, thus helping them to find the key to success.
